Nice to meet you!

I'm Taylor, the artist behind Murder Mittens ART.  I am a primarily self-taught artist based in Kansas City, MO. I studied American Sign Language in college. But art has always been my most profound passion. I've always enjoyed sharing my artwork online.

I started this website as a platform for my multidisciplinary portfolio, to offer commissions, and to sell my creations through my online shop. I've always loved drawing animals, gothic themes, and horrifying creatures. I pride myself on being a jack-of-all-trades kind of artist. I have experience creating with over a dozen mediums.

I sincerely hope you enjoy what you see as you navigate my domain.

Thank you for visiting my website!

My Mission and Artistic Goals:

My role as an artist is to articulate the unknown. Creating artwork is both difficult and incredibly worthwhile.  Pursuing art gives me more than a sense of meaning. Art manifests my purpose and my passion to provide something of undeniable value. My artwork is something that is constantly developing as I journey through life.  I intend to impact my spectators and customers through the storytelling experience within my art. The artwork I create is a consequence of articulating my potential. Becoming all that I can be. Telling my stories without speaking. Experience my passions vicariously through my work. I prevail in all that I desire. I create for my own satisfaction. I put my work on display not for the world to judge but for the satisfaction of seeing my accomplishments standing on its own.

Experience & Practices:

✍️ Drawing (Approx 25 years Experience)

  • Graphite: The standard pencil; for extensive shading and fine details.

  • Charcoal: Burnt organic material; known for deep, rich blacks and expressive, loose marks.

  • Pastels: Intence blendable pigment.

  • Ink: Used with pens, brushes, or nibs; offers high-contrast, permanent, and crisp lines.

  • Colored Pencils: Soft layered colors blended for vibrant illustrations.

🎨 Painting

  • Oil: Slow-drying pigment suspended in oil; allows for rich colors and smooth blending.

  • Acrylic: Fast-drying, highly versatile water-based paint.

🖨️ Printmaking

  • Relief Printing: Carving a design into a block (woodcut or linoleum), rolling ink onto the raised surface, and pressing it onto paper.

  • Screen Printing: Pushing ink through a mesh stencil stretched across a frame.

🧱 Sculpting & 3D

  • Ceramics: Clay hardened by baking (kiln or air); excellent for molding forms and pottery.

  • Wood: Carved, chiseled, or assembled to create three-dimensional forms.

  • Assemblage: Sculptural techniques with non-traditional materials into a unified composition. Often described as a 3D extension of collage.

💻 Digital & Modern

  • Digital Art: Artwork created using computer programs such as Adobe Photoshop and Procreate.

  • Vector Art: digital artwork built using mathematical formulas—such as points, lines, and curves—rather than a grid of colored pixels. Used for creating logos and more.

  • Mixed Media: Combining two or more distinctly different media.

  • 3D Modeling: three-dimensional manipulation of an object in a simulated space using specialized software such as Nomad sculpt, Zbrush, and Tinkercad.

👔 Textiles & Fiber Arts

  • Crochet: a craft where you use a single hooked needle (a crochet hook) to interlock loops of yarn or thread, creating beautiful, textured fabrics, clothes, and accessories.

  • Embroidery: Decorating fabric using a needle and thread to create intricate patterns, text, or textured designs.

  • Sewing & Garment Making: Cutting, pinning, and stitching fabrics together to construct clothing.

  • Fabric Dyeing & Printing: Altering the color or pattern of fabric using techniques such as block printing.

  • Pattern Drafting: the technical process of translating measurements or a design concept into a two-dimensional paper blueprint. (Used to create custom plushies.)

🎼Music

  • I play tenor saxophone and ukulele at an advanced level. I also have experience playing flute, clarinet, trumpet, guitar, and piano with some proficiency.
